Hi Courtney, I have used your beautiful morning yoga on YouTube for years! I just like the gentle stretches and it makes me feel very peaceful. I plan to do a few others as I’m starting to become more active with yoga/exercise now. Just wanted to pass on (as many others have based on comments) I appreciate you doing these beginner yoga videos!

    • Courtney Bell April 13, 2021

<3 that video holds a special place for me because it was the FIRST video i ever taught for youtube :) so glad to hear from you how you enjoy it!!!

    Hi Beth!
I’m glad you’re enjoying the yoga videos. Yoga is definitely something you can do everyday for years. If it starts to feel too difficult just look for modifications to support your body and breath. I make custom practice videos for people, so if you ever want to collaborate and get a daily practice video I would be happy to work with you. Check out the custom video page!
Hope this helps answer your question.

    Hi Courtney!
I’m a HUGE fan of your yoga videos through Psyche Truth on youtube! I’ve been trying to do them consistently but I’m wondering how often exactly I should be doing yoga? Like should it be every single day? or is that overkill? I have a tendency of going all in, every single day, but then I get tired of it or run out of time and just don’t do it at all. I guess I just need guidelines of what a healthy yoga schedule would look like and when I would start seeing the effects of it?
Thank you so much for your time and what you do!

Hi, Courtney! I’ve started doing yoga for the first time in my life, and I found a video for loosing weight, I must say that since the first day I felt relaxed and I’m not kidding but in my second day of yoga I felt more flexible like when I was a little girl. I lost my flexibility because i quit exercising, but now I feel much better. I love your videos! Greetings from Ensenada, Baja California!

Hi Courtney, I was looking for leg stretches on Youtube, and saw one of your videos within the list of my search. Yoga was never a thought, but being a guy, your beauty was captivating to me. So “click”, and your angelic, narrative voice soon gave me the encouragement and motivation to give yoga a try. It has been the best thing that I could have ever done for a full body workout and stretch routine. Although I find you beautiful in each of your videos (straight hair, curly hair, long or short, maybe even wearing a cute western cowgirl hat someday), it is your wonderful style of yoga teachings that keeps me coming for more. Thank you Courtney

Howdy Courtney. I wanted to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed your Yoga videos. Even if the do contain excruciating boat poses. As primarily a runner, I find by following your videos my running times have improved and soreness is not nearly as bad or as long.
BTW, keep the curly hair. : )
    Thanks

    • Courtney Bell January 25, 2017

That’s great to hear! Excruciating boat pose?! Couldn’t be! I’ve never heard anything like that before, lol. Yes… it is excruciating for a while, but your practice will continue developing the strength and flexibility needed to make it a breeze! Also, thanks for the vote – definitely keeping the curls!

    Hi Courtney,

I love your “Beginners Power Yoga for weight loss”. Breaking a sweat while remaining calm. I’m not that flexible and just recently started practicing yoga. How can I improve my forward bend and avoid bending from the shoulders while trying to get my head to the ground.

    • Courtney Bell January 25, 2017

Hi Kay! Thanks for writing. Keeping up with your practice is the best way to improve your forward bends. Yes, there are some specific tips I can share for getting out of the shoulder portion or the stretch and getting into your hips more. I will keep you updated as I am developing a program where you can stay in touch with me as I continue making videos and instructing classes for people to reach their goals in Yoga.

Hello, I have been wanting to try yoga for a while now, I just tried it this morning for the first time with your weight loss video on YouTube. I didn’t think I would feel my muscles doing what looked like simple exercises, but I am feeling it and it’s great! Thank you for sharing your videos!

    Hi Courtney,

Ive been following your yoga videos lately, in the hope that I can lose the 13 kg that I gained in about 2 years as a result of extreme stress; that stress has severely messed up my metabolism, so I know it wont be quick, but I realised that surely you do more than yoga to keep your body trim? I just cant believe that I can lose so much wt and reshape my body by yoga alone, much as I love it. Please can you share some fitness tips in order to lose wt? Other things you do apart from yoga? And what kind of diet you follow to maintain your wt and stay strong? Also, do you do yoga daily? How many hours a day? It would be so helpful and inspirational if you could share all that with your viewers. Many thanks.

    • Courtney Bell January 9, 2017

Hi Safia, thanks for writing. You bring up some great questions! I’m happy to share more about my personal routines and diet. I’m going to make a video talking about this, and will post it on my blog. If you like, join my Facebook group called Essential Yoga. I will be keeping that updated as well.

Hi Sonia, thanks for writing. I recently made a practice video for a student who is healing from a wrist injury. It is a 15 minute standing pose practice with shoulder stretch variations. There is no weight bearing for the hands. If you’d like to access the video I am currently taking donations 🙂 as I put in a lot of work to create/edit/publish each of my private videos. I feel that yours are about the practice and not about the teacher like so many others are. So thank you for that, and congratulations for finding a way to connect through the medium of YouTube in a real way.

I have some experience of yoga many years ago, and have enjoyed getting back into it. I look forward to going through your videos as I progress.

It has profoundly affected her life on a daily basis. Part of her treatment is horizontal exercise I was wondering if any of your programs would be mild enough for her? She has blood pressure issues, problems with blood pooling in her legs upon standing (which is why they want her to participate in horizontal exercise). Her therapists and doctors suggested yoga but most days she’s too sick to leave the house. Right now, she’s in the hospital at hillcrest. Your program appealed to me because it was something we could do at home. Let me know what you think. Thank you so much!

How can I stick to it? IM about 30 pounds over weight and feel the extra weight in my knees where I also have arthritis. I have arthritis in my shoulders and neck as well. I will be turning 50 in May 2016, and I have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease and the list goes on. Thankfully I don’t have any of those illnesses and I want to make sure I don’t fall into that same circle. I would appreciate some advise as to get a yoga membership. I went on to join yours but it said it was not avaliable. There are no yoga classes were I live, only Zumba and that’s too harsh on my body. Please help. Thank you

    Hi Courtney,
I’ve been very flexible all my life and have done all kinds of exercise (modern dance, pilates, cross training, zumba, etc, etc.) But I always felt yoga was a bit boring. Not anymore! I’ve been practicing with all your videos on Psyche Truth for several months and have lots of fun doing so. You are very clear in your direction and are very gentle in your instruction. It integrates perfectly into my meditation routine. I’m ready to move on to intermediate but can’t find a playlist for that level. Do you have a link I can check? Thanks!

Hi Courtney, A few years ago I did an inadvertent split routine while skiing and ended up with nagging hip and knee pain. No doctor or physio helped. I started with basic stretch videos by Jen Hilman and then your work which really resonated with me. I am so grateful that you are here, thanks so much!

Thank you for having such amazing accessible videos. I have been wanting to practice yoga for a very long time and always felt discouraged because others in classes were so advanced and I felt that it was taught more advanced. Now I am able to practice in the comfort of my home. Day 1 and I already feel enlightened and better about being comfortable and starting my journey to a better and positive healthy life, embracing all of nature. Wonderful teacher!

    Hi Courtney!
I came across your yoga tutorials on the PsycheTruth channel on YouTube a few months ago when I first started searching about Yoga and ways to begin incorporating it into my life. I’m 28 and live in India, and even though I could easily join a class or yoga group here, I prefer to practice at home and am immensely thankful for your videos. 🙂 I recently got interested in adopting a healthier lifestyle, and I love your tutorials because you go slow and take the time to explain things well. I have watched many other yoga teachers but prefer your style and guidance the most, which is how I came to discover this website. Thanks so much for your help and stay blessed 🙂

Bless you Courtney. Recently I have been going to an acupuncturist for chronic lower back pain. I have three ruptured lower discs and I shattered my L1 two years. She suggested I try yoga. Not wanting to be intimidated by going out to classes, I found your lessons on youtube. So far, it is five days since I started and I am definitely balancing on that “first stone”. Finally I feel I have found something I enjoy doing. Your lessons are making a big difference even in these early days. Thanks and regards – Christine

Hey Courtney! I just started looking through your videos and I am already hooked! I am a college student at BYU, so your 20 minute classes are perfect to squeeze into my day. I have been doing a Paleo diet to try to lose some weight, but I also wanted to add some sort of yoga to help that along. I gain most of my weight on my thighs, glutes, and lower abdominals and I’m not super heavy either. I am only 155 lbs. I really like your Beginners Yoga for Weight Loss Blast Belly Fat Core Strength Yoga and Back Pain Relief Class, but do you have any recommendations that would help most with losing weight in my specific trouble areas? Also, my husband is wanting to tone everything (he doesn’t have weight to lose really though), do you have any videos that focus on just toning? I appreciate it SO much and I LOVE your yoga. Thank you for all you do. =)

I guess i’m kind of a wreck right now.
I was wondering what videos you suggest i begin with. I currently just do regular stretches my PT gave me to do, but watching your video makes me feel like i can take care of everything going through the yoga moves you teach. Can you please suggest some videos for me?

I so wanna thank you Courtney for fantastic inspiring work you do.
I’m a housewife with active little daughter. For quite some time i was looking for convenient physical activity i can do to gain energy and well-being and to fight against of stress and depression. I’ve tried jogging, Pilatos but all the time i had to push and convince myself to begin workout.
Now for about two weeks i’m following your videos on Psychetruth and it feels Good. Now I start any new sequence with great pleasure. I’ve tried nearly all sequences from your playlist. Some of them still very challenging but it just motivates me to go further. I do 2-3 sequences a day as it’s very convenient time duration.
Also i’d like to mention that I’ve watched some yoga videos from other instructors but yours are most attractive to me. Apart amazing demonstration i really like your explanations and instructions which are so complete and very clear, easy to understand – what is important to me as not native English speaker.
After all these practices i feel much stronger and more balanced. I can easily do now Tree pose with foot at the thigh and some other one-leg balance poses, even can do crow pose for few seconds, which seemed to me impossible at the very beginning of my practice. Although strength and tone poses are still tough and often i lose my breath but i really relieve and relax at the stretching part of sequences. I’ve always been quite flexible, but now became even more and i just love it.
    Thank you again very much.
By the way I like your curly hair more than other hair styles 🙂

    • Courtney Bell June 15, 2015

Hi Svetlana, Thank you for your note. It is very encouraging for me to hear what you enjoy about my style of teaching!!!! I am also very encouraged that you have been able to enter crow pose, and are feeling more confident in Tree. Those are big steps. I know that rewarding feeling of making progress into something that once seemed impossible, and am happy you are experiencing it. Way to go!

Many thanks, blessings and best wishes Deborah

Hi Courtney I have been following yoga for the past 10 years or more now I have had a total knee replacement and pins in my shoulder both on my right side this was in 2011when I had a fall I find it pain full when doing certain poses when on knees can you please help regards sue

Hi Sue, thanks for reaching out! A yoga practice can be very beneficial after knee and shoulder surgeries with the right modifications and support. Having 10 years of experience can be both a benefit as well as a challenge because while it’s nice to have the background it can sometimes be hard to change what we’re used to being able to do 🙂 So hang in there! I’ve also gone through times of injury due to other activities that took months and months to recover well enough to even do a downward dog. I didn’t think I would ever be able to do arm balances again but now I am back into my handstands! So be patient and take the time to explore where your strengths are in your practice.

My recommendation for you is to practice the standing poses with arm variations. This will help to strengthen your legs, ankles, and hips + keep your shoulder joints happy. We want the shoulders to stay mobilized while gaining strength to release “knots” and scar tissue. (It’s a daily process) 😉

For example… Warrior One and Eagle Pose will be great to keep in your practice, & Humble Warrior with the fingers interlaced behind you as you fold to the inside of your front leg. I suggest not doing any poses on your knees or that puts any pressure near your knee joint. Do seated poses and lying down (on your back) poses rather than on the knees – for example reclined pigeon pose, seated cobbler pose and legs up the wall.

Here a couple of videos to start practicing with and I will post some more that will be helpful for you later on this week.

Hey Courtney! I just signed up for the week pass. I’m interested in doing the year membership but I wanted to start with the sunrise series and proceed from there. Unfortunately, I either don’t have access to it or I simply cannot find it. My account has already been drafted. Could you help me please? Thanks so much and I am so looking forward to starting my journey!

    • Courtney Bell March 31, 2015

Hi Shelly, I’m so glad you are starting the sunrise series yoga journey. It’s up and running now and I hope you are enjoying the videos 🙂 I look forward to continuing the program with you!

I started your videos about 4 months ago and did them consistently for about a month. At this time I noticed, quite rapidly, my balance, posture, breathing and over all well being, began to improve, not to mention visible weight loss. It made me excited. Alas the Christmas season and I got a bit slack. But, back into it again and I have to say; a huge thank you to you Courtney. You make yoga easy to add to ones daily routine for those not keen on group classes. I aim to keep yoga as a part of my life as it also helps me combat my depression and anxiety. So thank you and Namaste.

Jai! (that is an exclamation of victory!) Thank you for sharing, and it is my pleasure to make yoga accessible. There’s a natural ebb and flow to practicing, and I am happy to hear you back in the flow 🙂

      Namaste~

Getting any exercise with a 5 month baby is difficult. your 20 min sessions are perfect as they are about the length of baby nap time. I do the beautiful morning routine after breakfast and relaxation routine at night. I am wanting to add in your weight loss routines but am unsure how far to push my body 5 months after childbirth? My sister is a fitness coach and advices on the cautious side, would three 20 min sessions a day be overly ambitious?

    • Courtney Bell April 1, 2015

Hi Zoe, Hooray for having a morning and evening routine that you like! As for adding in a weight loss routine, I say go for it! I understand the side of caution, but you are the one who knows your own body best, and it sounds to me like you are ready for more 🙂 Three 20-minute sessions a day is absolutely a well-balanced practice. Keep in touch, and keep up the progress.

Hello, I have been a Therapeutic Yoga Instructor for 25 years. I have been a yoga
    practitioner for 34 years.
I started with yoga due to chronic migraines. I needed something more peaceful than loud music aerobics.
I joined your site because I just want some one to teach me for a change. You are younger than me, but one day you may know what I mean.
Thanks for all your hard work, and I am ordering one of the yoga tops! Thank you, and I will be watching. Blessings, Deedee

      Hi Deedee,
Thank you for your kind note! It’s true, we all have things to share with… and learn from… one another. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to share with you!
      Namaste,
      Courtney

Thank you for being here. I just started 5 days ago and must say, though at times it feels like you’re killing me, lol I truly appreciate you giving me the chance to learn comfortably and privately in my own home.
