How To Use Yoga Props

IMG_3956

When I first started practicing Yoga I used props all the time. They helped me with a variety of anatomical and physiological benefits. I could go so far to say that I owe the love I have for Yoga to the use of yoga props from the beginning!

When used correctly, they create more stability in your body allowing you to develop strength and flexibility with powerful alignment and action. This sets the stage for healthy alignment and efficient biomechanics. It is a direct way to enhance your Essential Fitness experience!

My favorite Yoga props are the strap and the block. This the basic starter set. With one strap and one block you can really focus on achieving longer stretches and gaining more strength.

Here is a run down of my suggested prop kits:

  • Basic – one strap + one block
  • Premium – one strap + two blocks + one bolster
  • Ultimate – one strap + two blocks + one bolster + two sand bags

You can always substitute the strap for a hand towel or belt. I recommend purchasing the 4in foam block in your favorite color from the link provided. I have 8 of them in blue! Find out how (and why) you use 8 yoga blocks in a future blog post 🙂 and also where to buy.
