Taking a salt bath in your own home can be as healing and energizing as soaking in mineral baths and hot springs. It is important that you use the right kind of salt, known as Epsom.
Epsom salts are made up of the compound magnesium sulfate, and they got their name because one of the earliest discoveries of magnesium sulfate took place in Epsom, England. Magnesium and sulfate both play essential parts in the ways in which our bodies function. Taking an Epsom salt bath helps restore magnesium and sulfate in your system because they can be absorbed through your skin.
Some doctors recommend soaking three times per week for about 12 to 15 minutes. If you’re wondering where to find Epsom salt, just check out your local grocery store, health food store or pharmacy.
My favorite way to soak in a salt bath is with a sprinkling of essential oils and herbs.

It may be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations. The French scientist René Gattefossé was among the first to discover these properties when he was severely burned in a laboratory explosion. Lavender may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods.
