Warrior One – Yoga Alignment Practice

In this video I guide you through FOUR ways to practice Yoga Alignment in Warrior One. Each alignment practice serves to enhance your physical experience and mental connection within the posture, using yoga props.

Warrior One is a demanding posture with many rewards including weight loss, back pain relief, and neck pain relief. Repeated practice with attention to proper alignment results in a stronger chest for better posture and deeper breathing, toned ankles and legs for knee protection, and reduced fat in hips.

The first alignment practice for Warrior One focuses on the foundation-- a forward-facing pelvis-- in simple standing position. Next, in Warrior One, the mind and body search for the coordination of muscles to find and sustain the stable foundation.

To begin, you stand facing forward and then step one foot back. Once your foundation is stable, you can lift your arms. As you advance, you can enter the Warrior One position from Downward Dog or a Lunge.

In this video I also demonstrate two ways to use a yoga strap to stabilize your front leg and stretch your shoulders. If you don't have a yoga block or strap you can still practice the posture. Stay tuned for my favorite prop recommendations in an upcoming blog. And be sure to check out More Free Yoga Videos at Yoga Current!

Can you find your alignment in Warrior One and then hold the pose for 20- 30 seconds? Remember to hold the pose but don't hold your breath!

Follow along with the video below to juice up your muscles and joints with an alignment practice. I know, the word "alignment" sounds so dry. How could it be juicy?! In my experience the juiciness comes from the amount of time breathing and focusing in one single pose. It takes a while to develop the flow of concentration through the body but once the alignment is sustainable, then it gets juicy!
